JoJo Golden Spirit Fighting Styles
The six style passives copied in full, and why Rush refuses to start until three different ultimates have fired.
Every playable fighter in JoJo Golden Spirit belongs to one fighting style. The style is an always-on passive, not a menu buff you toggle. It is also the Rush key: you must fire ultimates from three different styles before Rush starts. Stacking five copies of one color looks neat in the SSR roster and then fails the check. This page repeats the launch bonuses exactly so the players hub can stay a roster map and the combat guide can stay a timing guide.
The six bonuses (launch client)
Copy these numbers. Do not round them and do not invent extra clauses.
Defense. 30 percent damage reduction for the first 5 seconds of battle. The window is front-loaded. Defense Stands exist to survive the opening volley, not to wear a 30 percent shield all fight. Ermes Costello is the launch SSR most players read as this job.
Assault. When HP is below 40 percent, heal 150 percent of Attack. The heal can occur once every 10 seconds. Assault is a comeback style, not a full-time lifesteal aura. Prosciutto is the launch SSR on this row; he still cares about heat versus blizzard on the PVE list.
Agility. At battle start, target the counterpart-position enemy. If you remain untargeted, gain 5 percent crit. Below 60 percent HP, after being hit, enter 3 seconds of stealth. Stealth cooldown is 10 seconds. Bruno Bucciarati and Diavolo are the launch SSR names most often slotted here. Counterpart targeting is why you place Agility on the panel that faces the enemy you actually want dead first.
Ranged. +5 percent damage per tile of distance from the target. Two tiles is 10 percent. Four tiles is 20 percent. Standing adjacent wastes the style. Caesar Anthonio Zeppeli and F.F. are the launch SSRs who want this math. Fog and sand can cut range; Narancia is the SR exception described on weather.
Special. A basic attack restores 20 percent of max energy, once every 10 seconds. Special is the Rush battery. Muhammad Avdol and Koichi Hirose are the launch SSRs who make ultimates arrive on time. If Rush feels late, you are missing this style more often than you are missing an S-tier portrait.
Support. When an ally drops below 30 percent HP, heal 10 percent of that ally’s max HP, once every 10 seconds. Giorno Giovanna is the heal lynchpin on top of this style, which is why he carries early story even when a damage SSR is sitting in mail. Support does not replace Giorno’s kit; it is the style wrapper around it.
Rush, stated as a rule
Rush needs 3 different styles’ ultimates. Defense plus Assault plus Agility works. Three Assault ultimates do not. After the third different-style ultimate, Rush opens for about 10 seconds and grants 25 percent final damage. That is the window the Rush combat page times. Auto-battle will fire ultimates as soon as they are full unless you hold them. Hold until the three colors are ready, then dump. Special’s 20 percent energy restore is how a legal mix reaches that dump without a minute of waiting.
You do not need all six styles in one party. You need three. A working launch mix is Support (Giorno) + Agility (Bruno or Diavolo) + Special (Koichi or Avdol), with Joseph Joestar filling a stun job even though he is SR. Fated Expedition Jotaro can replace a damage slot if the featured banner landed him. Read reroll before you bind a guest that cannot make three colors.
Building a legal party from the live roster
Start from the eleven SSRs, then fill holes with SR names from the tier snapshot. Do not wait for unreleased Stands to complete a color. Josuke, Jolyne, Dio/DIO, Kira, Fugo, Trish, Risotto, Polnareff, Iggy, Kakyoin, Wamuu, and Kars are not style options yet. Jonathan Joestar is not a hidden Defense SSR; he left with closed beta.
Weather does not change the six bonuses. It changes whether a style can use them. Ranged’s per-tile bonus dies in fog if the Stand cannot ignore the cut. Assault’s 150 percent heal does not care if the field is hot, but Prosciutto’s kit does. Support still heals in the Entrance Exam; the flame still goes out if Shadow Sabbath is not stunned. Style plus PVE plus weather is the full picture. Style alone is only the Rush key.
Practical habits
- Before a fight, count styles in the party editor. If you see fewer than three, swap, even if the fourth portrait is S-tier.
- Place Agility on the counterpart panel. Place Ranged at distance. Place Defense where the first 5 seconds actually hit.
- Hold ultimates until three colors are up. Then fire. That is Rush. Details in combat Rush.
- Raise Quest Level with the daily checklist so Hall of Trials and story caps catch up to the party you built.
- Spend Uncharted Fate and Predestined Hope on missing styles, not on a sixth copy of a style you already Rush with. Redeem codes first.
The 14 August 2026 letter grades will move. These six bonuses are the launch rules. Until a patch rewrites the tooltips, Defense is 30 percent for 5 seconds, Assault heals 150 percent of Attack under 40 percent HP every 10 seconds, Agility hunts the counterpart and steals 3 seconds of stealth under 60 percent HP every 10 seconds, Ranged pays 5 percent per tile, Special refunds 20 percent max energy every 10 seconds, Support heals 10 percent max HP when an ally is under 30 percent every 10 seconds, and Rush still asks for three different ultimates. Build the roster to those numbers, not to a screenshot of five identical colors.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for codes, Rush, and Stand lineups.
What are the six fighting styles in JoJo Golden Spirit?
Defense, Assault, Agility, Ranged, Special, and Support. Exact bonuses are listed above. Rush needs ultimates from three of them.
Can I Rush with three fighters of the same style?
No. Rush needs 3 different styles' ultimates. A mono-style party of S-tier SSRs will not open the 25 percent window. See Rush combat.
Which launch SSR matches which style?
Support: Giorno. Agility: Bruno and Diavolo. Special: Avdol and Koichi. Ranged: Caesar and F.F. Assault: Prosciutto. Defense: Ermes. Confirm icons in-game; the SSR roster is the name list.
Does weather overwrite style passives?
No. Weather changes whether Ranged distance or a kit like Prosciutto can use the field. The six bonuses stay as written. Read weather for sand, fog, rain, heat, and blizzard.
Is Joseph Joestar a style I need?
Joseph is an SR stun piece for the Entrance Exam, not a seventh style. Slot him for PVE, then still count three different styles among the rest of the party.
